Oral cancer's toll cruel

It brought a tough, All-Star NBA coach to tears this week. And it stilled the voice of a famous film critic.

Head and neck cancers are rare, but known to be severe -- they can strip away a person's voice, distort the face and rob the basic abilities to eat, drink and swallow. The cancer can be so disfiguring, some patients seldom appear in public.

In a tear-filled press conference this week, Denver Nuggets coach George Karl announced he has a type of neck and throat cancer.

Karl said he will continue to coach, but will miss some games and practices. His type of cancer -- a squamous cell tumor found on his right tonsil -- is the most common and expected to be treatable with radiation and chemotherapy........ read more>>

Does Tiger Woods' apology hold weight?

Tiger Woods' comments Friday may become the most scrutinized apology in history, fodder for dinner tables and Internet chat rooms alike: Was he genuine? Was it a PR stunt? Can he do anything to restore people's faith in him?

The biggest knock on golf's biggest star is that it took him three months to utter any words publicly about his infidelity and then did so in a controlled environment. That's a no-no, according to apology etiquette.

UN nuclear watchdog accuses Iran over nuclear weapons

The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog has radically increased pressure on Iran by publicly describing concerns over atomic weapons for the first time.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it feared that Tehran could be working on "a nuclear payload for a missile" in its bluntest report yet on Iran’s uranium enrichment programme.

The White House responded to the report by threatening “consequences” if Iran failed to co-operate with nuclear inspectors.

In the IAEA’s first report on Iran under its new director-general Yukiya Amano, tougher language appeared to signal a sea-change in the attitude towards Tehran........read more>>
